Recording achievements
4Children’s research reports over the last two years have quantified the extraordinary success and growth of the out of school sector – Britain’s second fastest growth sector.
In June 2003, the Next Steps report into Out of School Childcare revealed that the out of school sector had grown to achieving half of the target that 4Children (then Kids’ Clubs Network) had set in 1997 – with over 10,000 clubs operating in England. 4Children remains committed to achieving 20,000 out of school clubs by 2010, which would mean a kids’ club at or near to every school in the country.
Industry Statistics 2003 Part 1
4Children produces a Biannual Industry Statistics Report of out of school provision. This comprehensive survey documents the developments of out of school childcare at a time of unprecedented growth. The last survey was completed in December 2002/January 2003 providing the latest definitive indicator of trends for this important area of provision for children, families and communities.
Next Steps for Out of School Childcare 2003
The second Next Steps outlines ten critical areas that need to be implemented to ensure that all children and parents can access out of school childcare and enjoy the benefits this brings. It is essential that progress in these areas is carefully monitored and the findings widely disseminated. By doing this, momentum can be maintained over a number of years and this will help realise 20,000 out of school clubs by 2010.
This report publishes the results of the 4Children’s Survey with 44 CISs throughout England during May 2003 (Industry Statistics 2003 Part 2).
